Thankful.

My goodness, these are trying times.  I'm the first to admit that life gets me down sometimes.  There are time when I don't want to get out of bed, let alone face the day.  But I do.

My community has been devastated by horrific events these past few weeks.  We've had four murders.  Two were children.  There has also been a non-fatal stabbing and a series of break-ins.  For a small town like mine, these things just don't happen.  I know I sound naive here, but I'm serious.  Our town is literally in shock over these events.  You take that and add the hideous events of Sandy Hook....and that will make anyone doubt goodness in the world.

In times like these, I try to be thankful.

I am thankful that I am healthy, have a job, & have friends, family and pets that love me unconditionally.  I try to remember that, no matter what my problems are, I am a fortunate person.  I may rant from time to time but all in all, I do not have a bad life.  I need to remember not to take that for granted.

Life is precious and fleeting.  It's gone in the blink of an eye.  As I sit here this morning, I realize that I didn't mean to sit down and write this --- it just sort of, well, happened.  I just started typing.

Resolutions.  Most of us make them, most of us break them.  Well, my number one this year is to BE THANKFUL.  I will honestly try my hardest not to break this one, even if I slip up on whatever others I make.  Because, no matter what is going on in the world, we all have something to be thankful for.

First Thing

I'm stealing this idea from Blonde Undercover Blonde!

...

First thing you do when you wake up in the morning:
Grumble that I have to get up.

First thing you reach for when you open the fridge:
Lemon-Lime Gatorade.

First things you do when you get to the gym:
Wait....I'm at the gym?

First thing you do when you get home from work:
Put my purse down and say hi to the kitties, dog & boyfriend.

First car:
A ghetto Grand-Am.

First accident/traffic violation:
I hit a car trying to make a left hand turn....did I mention that this happened RIGHT AFTER I'd gotten my license.  Oh yeah...it sucked big time.

First thing you wanted to be when you grew up:
Architect/Interior Designer

First choice beverage:
Margarita.

First choice breakfast:
Best breakfast ever with the worst name - the Rooty Tooty Fresh N' Fruity from iHop.
(chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries on top, scrambled eggs, ham & bacon for the win.)

First choice dessert:
Creme Brulee.

First song that comes to mind:
"Changes" by David Bowie

First major purchase:
Um...I don't know that I've made a 'major' purchase.  Major for me is like $300 or more...so a TV, I guess?

First job: [aside from babysitting]
Oh gosh, that was like forever ago.  I worked at Subway when I was like 14 (for like 2 weeks.)  I also worked at Domino's, a shoe store, and Stage...although I can't remember which one of those I did first.

First time you flew on a plane:
The ONLY time I've ever been on a plane was in 2nd grade at the town festival.  There was this guy giving plane rides to kids in this little 3 seater plane.  We get in the air and he pretends to fall asleep.  Needless to say, that jerk scarred me for life.

What are your firsts?

Mani Monday!

Tonight I get to make some Christmas wishes come true.  I'm in Junior Auxiliary and tonight is our annual Christmas shopping outing for the Angel Tree.  Every single child on our Christmas this year will get some fabulous presents straight from their Dear Santa wishlist.

I wanted to do my nails in something cute to match our Christmas shirts, but then I thought...well, we'll be grabbing and buying and bagging and wrapping -- this mani is going to get tore up.  So I went with a simpler alternative.  I just did a few coats of "Vivien" from Julep's American Beauty collection.  It's a gorgeous clear coat polish that features gold micro glitter as well as huge gold glitter flakes.  I feel like my nails are very 'Kate Spade' right now!

Do you like?  I know it's super simple, but at the same time I'm feeling pretty festive!

Pick Me Up, Love...

As you've probably noticed, I've been feeling pretty low lately.  I was trolling through Etsy this morning and found a lovely shop called KensieKate.  Her designs inspired me to pick myself up off the ground.  I wanted to share a few with you, in case some of you were feeling a little junky too.

Advice To My Younger Self

It seems like I am always thinking back to some stupid thing I did or some thing I wish I could change.  It eats me up inside and makes me have a panic attack.  There are so many things I wish I could tell my younger self (provided that younger-me would listen, that is!) so that I wouldn't end up making the mistakes I have and harboring the regrets that I do.

Dear Younger Self,
  • Don’t let other people decide your self-worth. I spent so much time being so shy because I didn't feel confident in myself that I missed out on a lot of fun opportunities.  I was scared of people because I didn't want to get hurt.  But, you know what --- you're going to get hurt anyway.  That's life and hurt/pain happens to everyone.  Also, you need to work on handling that hurt/pain better, as you are pretty much a hot mess mix of panic attack + freak out when faced with it.
  • Invest in yourself. I should have found something I was passionate about and cultivated it.  That could have been your career, your life's passion.
  • Take care of yourself. Exercise, eat right, don’t smoke; wear make-up if it makes you feel good. Style your hair. Maintain a good skincare regime. All these things become exponentially harder as you get older.  Take better care of yourself now so you won't have health problems later.
  • Play the field. Not that there’s anything wrong with settling down at a younger age or with a high school sweetheart at all.  But believe me, in your case, the one that you think is 'the one' is just going to leave you and when he does, it's going to jack you up for years.  It's going to take a LONG time for you to be okay with it and it will impact your future relationships in a bad way.  There were a few good guys you dated that didn't deserve to be treated the way they were just because you were still hung up on 'him'.  Learn that it’s okay to date for the sake of dating. It gives you an idea of what you want in a long-term partner – and what you don’t. And besides, you’ll get some great stories out of it.
  • Realize that you came from a messed up family.  Start therapy.  Start it early.  Understand that your situation is not normal and don't fool yourself into thinking it is.  Learn values and get advice from your friends' parents on how to grow up successfully.  The issues you have that come from your family situation growing up will haunt you for years and years.  It will impact the decisions you make on getting married and having children of your own.
  • Choose a career that lights your soul on fire. Passion lends itself to success, so no matter what field you choose, if you love it, you’ll do well.
  • Hang on to the friends that are worth it.  I know that in life, friends come and go.  Get it through your head that the friends you have in High School are worth it.  You will lose them later on if you keep up your path of self destruction.  It will make you very sad when you think about it.
  • Be responsible with money.  My god, this is a lesson that is so hard to learn for you.  Start a savings account.  Use this savings account to actually SAVE money.  Don't buy things you can't afford and for the love of god, stay away from credit cards.
  • Stop trying to impress people.  Yeah, it's High School and 'image is everything'.  But it's important to remember that those people who were shitty to you in High School have issues of their own and you don't know what makes them the way they are.  Do your best to be YOU.  Be kind, smile, laugh, be silly -- because that's who you are.  Confidence is sexy.  People will either like you or they won't, and you can't please everyone.
  • Live alone for a while. I know you won't admit it, but you hate being alone.  The thought scares the hell out of you.  It will be tough and you will have hard times but with responsible money management (learn it!), you can pay your bills and have food to eat.  If you're bored, go hang out with a friend.
  • Learn that it’s okay to like yourself. When is the last time someone paid you a compliment and you believed them? Brighten up.  Stand up straight and project how awesome you can be.  Boys will flirt with you.  I know it's scary and I know I thought they were making fun of me.  Wipe that out of your head and grow a (metaphorical) pair.  Flirt back.  Be confident.  Don't automatically assume everyone is an ass.  Give people a chance.
What advice would you give to your younger self?

{[Cara Box Exchange]}

So...I'm sitting here one day, reading my favorite blogs as usual.  One of the girls was talking about Cara Box, a monthly treasure trade founded by Kaitlyn at Wifessionals.  (btw, there's a new sign up every month so if you want to join us, go for it!)

This was my very first time doing a Cara Box Exchange.  I'm excited, yet nervous.  What if my partner doesn't like the things I got her?  What if I don't like the things that she got me?  Well, there's more to it than that.  You're making a new friend, you're giving them encourangement and you get some fun goodies in the process.  It's such a fun program!

Cara Box

There are a few rules to the Cara Box:
 1// Packages have a $15 limit
2// Make sure your box goes along with the theme. Get creative! Not everything has to be purchased. Get on Pinterest...find something awesome to make!!
3// Include 5+ items per box. Who wants to open a box with one item? Again, creativity!
4// Include a letter of encouragement. After getting to know the woman you are paired with and finding out about her life through her blog, make the effort to include a note of encouragement. This is not optional. It's great to get items that put a smile on your face, but kind words will last in your heart forever.
5// The last day of the month, create a blog post revealing your box and giving a shout out/link up to your match's blog. It's always nice to meet even more friends through the blogosphere.
6// This exchange is open to US residents. If you are outside of the US, please submit your name and info the same as everyone else. If I get interest from more than one person in your country, that country will be added to the exchange for that month (:
7// You CAN participate even if you don't have a personal blog. At the end of the month you will type up your post and your partner can post it up jointly with theirs on their own blog.
8// I am in no way personally responsible for anything that occurs after I send you your swap partner. I also cannot be held accountable for lost or damaged packages. Tracking numbers are HIGHLY recommended & inexpensive.
9// If your partner ends up not participating or you feel slighted in some way, please let me know. There will be a one time warning & month probation for any of this behavior, before being completely banned from participating in future Cara Box Exchanges.
10// Have fun!!!!

My partner for this month is Nicole Flothe. She's the managing editor for Heartbeat MagazineWe emailed to get to know each other & shop for our themed gifts!  This month's theme was 'childhood' so we had to really think about what we'd want the other to have.  We talked about all sorts of things like what our favorite childhood move was, favorite color, food & candy, hobbies we had.  Then we take what we've learned & go shopping!
I had so much fun shopping for Nicole!  I took each item I purchased and wrapped them up in colorful paper & stickers and added them to the box.  I even through in a few bonus items I thought she might like.  I threw some rainbow heart confetti in there and mailed it out.  I hope she likes it!

I got my package from Nicole a few days later.

So. Much. Cute!

Seriously, look at all those goodies!  They came in that jewelry box in the right photo.  I got a set of three glitter body art pens, some dress up magnets, a polka dot foldover bag, a gorgeous inspirational notebook, shimmery nail polish, a business card holder, a slinky, glitter crayons & a tiara!  I totally scored!  I love all my gifts!  Nicole did an amazing job picking them out:)  Thank you, Nicole!

I love these Cara Box exchanges because it gives us a change to meet new people and connect with them on a personal level.  I'm so pleased to have met Nicole!  If you want to 'meet' her as well, check out the links below:

Let It Go

I recently saw this post on one of my favorite blogs and found myself nodding the entire time while reading through it.  Let It Go.  Seems pretty simple, doesn't it?

I guess it is......in theory.

I know all too well that sometimes it's just easier for us to hold on to those things that have hurt us in the past or made us angry rather than choose to forgive and move on.

Being the admittedly overly-sensitive person that I am, I find this particular movement to be an issue at times.  I know I have a hard time with change.  I know I have a hard time 'moving on'.  I wish I was better with both of these things.

For instance, I received a horrible message from an ungrateful Etsy customer last week.  No matter what I said to her, how I tried to make amends (even though the fault was not mine), she would not have it.  This has hurt and haunted me all week.  Then I realized....she just wants to be mad.  She needs to feel like she 'won'.   She needed to tear someone down.  So....I'm trying to Let. It. Go.

Some things I've held on to for years.  There's so much pain in my heart.  I know it's dragging me down.  How does one forgive and forget?  There are so many things in life that I wish I could change, have a "do over" on, etc.  How do you get past that?

To quote K from Eat Yourself Skinny (my inspiration for this post, btw) - "Maybe it won't solve the initial problem you started with and perhaps it won't bring old friendships back together, but chances are you're probably better off anyway and you can move on to more exciting things."

So...I guess this is an open letter.
If I've ever hurt you, I'm truly sorry.  I know that there are people who might not like me for something I've said or done to them in the past.  They may hold grudges.  I know that there are people I have grudges against, feel a resentment toward.  I might be hard pressed to find a person in this whole world who hasn't held a grudge at one time or another.

Point being:  forgive yourself, forgive others.  I need this hammered into my head.  What happened in the past is just that --- the past.  I need to focus on being a better person.

"Sure things happen for a reason and people come and go from your life, but take that extra step today and allow yourself to let go of all that negativity you've be holding on to.  I guarantee you'll feel 100% better and I bet you might even find yourself in a much happier place."
So today I choose to...

H54F (+ Bits & Pieces)

Oh wow, you guys, it's Friday.  This week has dragged on, am I right?  (Of course I am).

Maybe it's because I have a 4-day weekend next week? (Thank you, Thanksgiving!)

Maybe it's because next Friday is Black Friday?  (Yeah, I'm one of those people.)  I have to admit, there's something thrilling about being up at 4 a.m. to go shopping.  It's like my Super Bowl.  It's GAME TIME!  Ha!  No, I'm not the lady who stands in line for a $3 toaster or whatever - I just like the excitement, really.

Oh, I'm rambling.
Anyway......it's High Five For Friday!  So let's see what's been going on this week, shall we?

This muffin.  Oh my god, you guys, this muffin.  Two Words.  Buttermilk Spice.
Life Changing.  So Good.  (well, that was six words but you get my drift.)

Weekend of movies.  Good movies at that!  We saw Wreck It Ralph (too cute) and Skyfall (my first James Bond movie ever).  Um, hey Daniel Craig.  How you doin'?

This bracelet.  This is my newest creation in the "My Favorite Bloggers" collection in my Etsy store.  It's inspired by Kait of Gridiron Lipstick:)

This poem.  It's called "I Could Pee On This".  It's a poem written from a cat's perspective.  It's hilarious.  It's also a spot on depiction of my cat Beauford.

Fortune Cookie.  I loves me some Chinese food.  I have a particular way of getting to my fortune cookie.
  • Break cookie in half.
  • Put fortune to the side without looking at it.
  • Eat fortune cookie.
  • Read fortune.
I have to do it in that order.  I'm OCD about fortune cookies, ya'll!

I am so weird.

November 15, 2012

Introducing....

The newest piece of jewelry to the "My Favorite Bloggers" collection --- The Gridiron Lipstick Bracelet!

This beauty is a textured golden link bracelet that has many shades of coral-orange and coral-pink braided throughout.  See, Kait's favorite color is coral, so I just had to make a bracelet that encompassed that.  Kait also is a big fan of gold - hence those gorgeous golden links.  And, as a nod to her blog, Gridiron Lipstick, there is a tiny football charm attached near the toggle clasp that has been hand painted in a bright, shiny coral pink.

This bracelet can be found via my Etsy shop or my clicking here.

Currently.

reading  The Lady of The Rivers by Phillippa Gregory.  I've long been fascinated by Tudor era history, and Philippa Gregory does an amazing job of bringing fact and fiction together to create a very enthralling story.
writing less than I should.  I'm suffering a bit of a burnout.  Or lack of creativity.  Or both, if we're being honest.
listening to cars zoom by. I've got my office windows open right now so I can get a breeze blowing through.
thinking that jealousy is an ugly trait.  I hate when jealousy hits me and I hate when it's for stupid, silly things.  If that could be a trait that I could flip a switch & turn off, I totally would.
smelling my Pain de Bananae candle from Zombee Candle (aka - best candles evah!).  Seriously, though, this candle will make you so hungry for banana bread it's insane.
wishing that my heart didn't ache when I see the things that I know I shouldn't want.
hoping that there's a good turnout at the JA Bunko Tournament this weekend.  The proceeds go to Angel Tree and that is a very important cause.  It provides Christmas presents to families who cannot afford gifts.
wearing  a lot of black and gray.  Funny, but that's how I was feeling this morning.
loving that we had a great weekend celebrating the bf's birthday.  We watched Wreck It Ralph & the new Bond movie, Skyfall.  Both awesome movies, btw.  We drank a little too much at On The Border.  We had an amazing breakfast a Mimi's Cafe (you MUST try the Cinnamon Brioche French Toast) and we got to go on a Distillery Tour that included lots of free tasting!  Super fun weekend!
wanting to get more christmas shopping done. As much as I try to plan and buy throughout the year, I always get sidetracked.  I HATE last minute shopping.  I have made a decision to get it ALL done before December.  I have a list ready and I just need to get going....
needing to get a massage & a pedicure.  My lower back has been cranky this past week and well, I just love pedicures.  Soooo relaxing.
feeling quite blah.  Really, just blah.
clicking  Sidda Thornton. (duh).  She's where I get my 'Currently' prompts from.  Also loving some Gridiron Lipstick & Lala Lists.  Loves me those girls.

A Fool For Tulle

I've noticed that there seems to be an uprising of tulle-ness lately.  Not that I'm complaing.  (Really, I'm not.)

I love tulle.  If it were socially acceptable, I'd probably live in tulle.  Have you ever heard the phrase "_________ make(s) everything an event!"?  About 99.9% of the time the phrase is spoken by a woman and is usually about shoes, purses, etc.  Well, to me, it's tulle.....and shoes & purses, etc.

What are your thoughts on the tulle trend?
Have you found any items that you absolutely love (or hate)?

Forget It! Friday Link Up

I want to FORGET that I have had this loud, awful cough for over a month now.

I want to FORGET that my roommates don't help around the house, at all.

I want to FORGET that my brother, despite having a ridiculous amount of help & basically being handed a second chance, is failing out of college.

I want to FORGET that my boss is sick so therefore my job stability is uncertain.  I WANT him to get better.  He's a good person and it's not right that he's going through this illness.

I want to REMEMBER that we are celebrating my boyfriend's birthday this weekend!

I want to REMEMBER that I am fortunate, no matter what ailments, problems, issues and the like that I may have.

I want to CONTINUE to be thankful for everything I have and everyone in my life.

As Misc. as Misc. can be.

Alright, let's face it.  Drinks are much cooler with a fun straw.  Today's choice is yellow, obviously.  It matches the can...HELLO!

This bag of frozen mini Hershey bars in my work freezer is The Debbil!  One turns to two which turns to stomachache.  Lack of willpower against snacks, thy name is Tiffany.

Who decided these tasted good?!  They obviously lied.  These taste like pasty cardboard and should be ashamed to sit on the shelf with my beloved Frosted Strawberry.  Huge fail.  Huge!

Thank you to everyone who entered.  If you didn't win this time around, don't get discouraged.  There are many more giveaways on the way!

My Jewelmint November Selections

With Jewelmint, I tend to find that it is hit or miss.  Last month I skipped by box because nothing really struck my eye.  I mean for $30, you want a piece of jewelry that you LOVE, am I right?

Well, this month, I've found a couple.  And you, dear readers, are totally welcome to give me advice on what your personal favorite is, so that I may have some assistance in picking a piece.

Get ready for your close up ladies! Our 2” pair boasts newly recolored shadow crystal crystals for a glamorous look. Inspired by our popular Screen Siren Earrings, we’ve added rose gold detail to this stacked design. Red carpet ready and in less than five minutes? Done and done!

Dress outside the lines in the latest color trend with jaded extras. Peridot, sage, and emerald colored stones set the scene for a retro revival in a mix of classic jewel cuts. Our decadent earrings get a modern spin with hematite-platting, perfect for carrying your closet into next season. The pair dangle at an impressive 2 1/2".

Whether it’s silver or sparkling, this season, go for Oriental opulence. Clear, pink, and smoky grey colored stones dazzle with a heightened sense of Eastern elegance. Inspired by traditional geisha fans, a crystal and ball bead embellished fan dangles with subtle Asian charm. Slip on our 1 ¼” post back earrings and let your look get lost in translation.

So, what do you think?  Do any of them stand out at you and scream "get this one!"?  Or do you think I should skip this month?  Let me know what you think in the comments, please!

{Recipe} Crock Pot Garlic Lime Chicken

I don't know about you, readers, but it's getting quite chilly here.  I found this recipe online but made a few changes to it and I really liked the result so I thought I'd share it with you!

I hope you enjoy the chicken as much as I did!

1.- My Love Club box could not have been cooler this month.  It was just the little cute pick-me-up that I needed this week.
2.- I've been eating key limes like crazy lately.  Don't ask me why.
3.- This pretty little thing is just one of the tons of new things I added to the shop this week!
4.- Dear Netflix, your packaging rocks.  Sincerely, Me.
5.- Kait!  How awesome you are.  She's featuring the bracelets I made her on her blog today.

Forget It Friday

I want to forget that I'm sick.  I'm so tired of coughing!

I want to forget that Halloween is next week and yet I've eaten through about half the candy bowl.

I want to remind Mother Nature, because I think she FORGOT that it's October, that hurricanes are a no-no this time of year.

I want to FORGET that I'm starting Insanity on Monday.  Actually, I don't want to forget...I want to do it, but I want to FORGET that I know it's going to hurt.

I DON'T want to FORGET that I'll be cheering on my team tomorrow, then going to the Zoo.  A fun day indeed!

I DON'T want YOU to FORGET to enter these giveaways! #1 & #2

It's OK Thursday

It's OK that my stomach is growling.  I'm not hungry...so what's up with that?

It's OK that my roommates are totally lazy.  Doing dishes is fun! (Yeah, keep telling yourself that.)

It's OK that I am ready for the election to be over so that people will stop arguing over it.

It's OK that my boyfriend is working less hours so that he can focus on school more.  It sucks that we're losing that money, though.

It's OK that I've been waking up on my own at 6:30 every morning for the past week, even though my alarm doesn't go off until 8:00.

It's OK that you can't eat cupcakes & candy to be skinny.  Wait, no it's not.
