.001 On The "Gives A..." Scale Today

Basically, I spent way too much time on the Internet this morning.  Curse you, Internet!

I was almost late for work, I forgot to eat breakfast and my hair...well, looks rough.  This is what happens when you find a funny website and you lose track of time.  I'm calling it the "Pinterest By Proxy" effect, because the first photo that I found was on Pinterest and I made a mistake and clicked a link...and then all of a sudden it was 2 hours later.

So, enjoy you guys, the result of my morning gone off the tracks.

Have You Tried THE TASTE?

Have you heard of The Taste yet?  It's this amazing new cooking competition that airs Tuesday nights on ABC at 8/7c.  There are four judges:  Nigella Lawson, Brian Malarkey, Anthony Bourdain & Ludo Lefebvre.  Basically, these four are complete opposites in terms of personality, which means that there's A LOT of drama on this show.

Each judge brings something cool to the table.  Brian Malarkey is the judge who isn't afraid to speak his mind (plus he's a really snappy dresser -- I totally dig those bow ties!) while Anthony Bourdain is known to the world as the guy from No Reservations who isn't afraid to hurt someone's feelings.  I have to say I really enjoy his brand of snarky sarcasm!  Our lady Nigella is just crazy gorgeous and comes up with the best sound bites while Ludo is a bit hard to understand, but his accent makes him completely adorable.

Let's break it down for you:  You've got four teams, each sponsored by a judge.  Within each team, the members compete with one another to create a single dish which is served to the judges on tiny spoons.  But first, the members on each team must compete with each other, and are first judged within their own teams on who’s creation is the best, and that is the one that will be presented to the judges.

The judges have a blind taste test, meaning that they have no idea what they're eating or what team made the dish on the spoon.  I think this aspect adds something to the overall show, as the judges can't pick favorites if they don't know whose food they're eating!

It's a fun, action packed show that features great judges and amazing looking food.  You can't go wrong!  Another aspect to the show is it's social media presence.  There's a Twitter hashtag - #TasteTuesday - that can be used to connect with others who are watching the show as well.  You can share your thoughts & opinions with other viewers, and who knows?  Maybe you'll make new Twitter friends!  You can also follow the official account for The Taste (@TheTasteABC) and see the action in real time!

Today is going to be especially cool.  Judge Brian Malarkey (@brianmalarkey) is doing a live Twitter Party at 3/2c.  You can send in your thoughts, opinions, questions....and Judge Malarkey will be there to answer them!  I just love how interactive this show is!  Seriously, though, I wouldn't miss it!

{Sponsor Spotlight} Arrow's Finds/Arrow In The Eye

My Dear Friends,

Please say hi to Beth, one of my Fantastic February sponsors.  I love Beth because she's hilarious, isn't afraid to say what's on her mind & has an incredible eye for vintage finds.

Beth is so not your typical southern belle.  She can't cook or clean but can bake the heck outta some cookies, cupcakes, and pies.  She's got quite an unconventional love story as well.  After shocking her family by getting married & moving to the other side of the state, she's started a great life by becoming a wife to an awesome guy whom she met via the interwebz.  They're proud parents of two awesome doggies, a min pin & lab.

Most of the time you can find her hiding behind my MacBook Pro or "attempting" to be a housewife.  She also spends a great amount of her time as owner of both the Etsy shop Arrow's Finds (full of vintage clothing, accessories & home goods) and the awesome blog Arrow In The Eye.

What inspired you to create your blog/business/brand?
I've always been a slight clothes hoarder but it finally got to the point that it was starting to take over my guest room closet. That's when I discovered that I had some what of a taste in fashion & got compliments constantly from friends on my vintage dress. To help purge all my vintage beauties I opened up an Etsy store. Now I spend most weekends hunting down antiques & vintage items in old barns and flea markets.

How can readers connect with you online?
You can find Beth through her Etsy, Blog, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram #1 & #2.

Check out some of these gorgeous finds that Beth has listed in her vintage-inspired Etsy shop:

{Sponsor Spotlight} Chrissy from A Lil' Dash Of Diva

By now, most of you know Chrissy of A Lil' Dash Of Diva as she's one of my awesome co-hosts on the That Friday Blog Hop.  But, if you're new here, allow me to introduce her to you!

Chrissy is a total girly girl. She loves makeup, glitter, sparkly things and the color pink.  She's a SAHM to my one beautiful daughter and have been married for 9 years. Chrissy & her family reside in Phoenix with their silly Boxer dog named Summer.  She loves photography, reading books and magazines, cooking, baking and wine.   Her sweet husband bought her dream car for her last summer - a Dodge Charger that she lovingly calls Roxy.

Chrissy's blog is fabulous.  She's currently working on a 40 By 40 project.  It's really interesting to get to watch her complete her goals.  She's also big on networking & loves to connect with new bloggy friends.

What inspired you to create your blog/business/brand?
It originally started as just a way for our out of town family and friends to keep up with what was happening in our lives as our daughter grew up. It has turned into much more than that as time has gone on.

Are there any social media links you'd like to share?

{Recipe} Pineapple Grapefruit Apple Water

Since I've gotten chunky again, I've been searching for ways to liven up plain, boring water.  I'm an admittedly picky eater so weight loss has been a little hard.  Divorcing myself from sodas has been especially hard, especially on work-days where I absentmindedly sip on a beverage all day.  I don't want to be round forever, so I had to do something!  I read on Pinterest (of course) that there are certain fruits & veggies that help curb the appetite.  It was a huge list!  Everyday foods like apples, grapefruit, mint, cucumbers, ginger, pineapple, grapefruit, lemons....they all help you feel full without driving up that calorie count.

I stopped off at the grocery store on the way to work last week and picked up some fresh pineapple slices, a grapefruit & a few apples to snack on/use for flavor in water.  I also brought a gallon pitcher to work with me so that I could make myself drink water.  I did some experimenting with flavors (note: don't mix a yellow grapefruit with a Granny Smith unless you want some seriously tart water!) and found a combination that I really like.  I ended up with 1/2 a Gala apple, roughly half a pineapple (per the portion size on the container) and 1/2 a yellow grapefruit.  It's really good!  The sweetness of the pineapple & Gala apple really balance out the sourness of the grapefruit.  I've been drinking this combo. for a week and I'm not tired of it yet!

Seeing as how there are so many different kinds of apples as well as a good number of varieties of grapefruit, your options are virtually endless!  I've made a printable recipe card below, in case anyone wants to try this recipe for yourself.  Try it out when you have time!  I'd love to hear what combinations you used to create your perfect tasting water.  Feel free to leave your variation in the comments below:)

Simply right-click and save this to your computer so you can print it out at your convenience!

Apple Cinnamon Metabolism Water

Resolutions are hard, y'all!  I've straight fallen off the bandwagon.  It's gone and left my chubby butt sitting here.  My boyfriend has far surpassed me in the weight loss department.  You know that sucks!  His little "I'm Winning!" taunts are getting to me.  So here's what I'm gonna do.  I'm going to share healthy recipes with you guys, and hopefully ask you to be my cheerleaders....maybe, possibly?  Seriously, a little support would be incredible:)

So, anyway...did you know both apples and cinnamon raise your metabolism?  I truly hate drinking plain, boring water.  It's just that --- boring.  I've been looking for ways to liven up my water, since we have to have it and it is very important to weight loss.

Here's an idea that I (aka Pinterest w/ some tweaks) came up with.

The great thing about this recipe is that it's super simple and very affordable.  You make it in a large pitcher (like you'd make tea in) and you can re-fill the water 2-3 times before you have to replace the apples & cinnamon!

Feel free to right click & save the card if you'd like!  You can also make this recipe with your SodaStream or with seltzer water, if you'd like fizzy water instead!

Scene & Heard

Let me just say, watching the Super Bowl halftime show with an 8-year old girl is quite hilarious.  I had the pleasure of kid-sitting one of my best friends' kiddos yesterday.  Her name is Emma and she has an opinion about everything.

Let me break it down.  Here comes Beyonce with her Queen-Of-The-World attitude.  Yeah, B, you're great - we get it.  Now, I'm a Beyonce fan like the rest of the world but I just don't really buy in to the whole "I'm An Icon" thing that she has going for her yet.  I respect that she is an enormously talented singer.  I will give her that.  I do find her talented and entertaining.  I confess I blare the music of both Destiny's Child & Beyonce on the regular...but again, that doesn't mean I have to like the person as much as I like the music.

I do not, however, like the fact that she has been validly accused of songwriting theft over the years (taking credit for writing songs that she didn't), she has blatantly copied others' music videos (& then praised for her 'originality') & performances.  I just don't get it.  For someone who is unarguably talented as she is, why do you need to rip off others?  When did the line get so blurred between thievery & 'inspiration'?  Ugh.  But I digress....

So halftime comes and Emma and I go to sit with her mom to watch the show.  Emma sees Beyonce come up on stage (meanwhile we are at a college event, surrounded by at least 200+ other people) and start dancing and says "Why is she taking her clothes off?" (to be fair, not even 3 minutes in, Beyonce had lost her overcoat & skirt).

I looked over at her about five minutes in and she was covering her eyes.  I asked her why and she said because Beyonce is 'dirty dancing'. (She totally was!)

I will totally admit that I screamed like a little girl when the members of Destiny's Child hit the stage.  I loved Destiny's Child!  I was bummed that they didn't show up until 7 1/2 minutes in & only stayed on stage for about 3 minutes.  Also, did it bother anyone else that, with their impressive roster as a group, they only sang snippets of two songs and then had to sing a Beyonce song before they unceremoniously walked off stage?!  To me, that seemed so conceited.  I mean, damn, give proper credit to the group that made you who you are.

Emma's mom tried to instill some positives about the performance to her daughter.  She told her that Beyonce tried to show that women can be powerful.  That there was an all-female band as well as all female dancers.  We didn't really know what to say about the costume choices but...well, it's just the way things are, I guess?  Being bootylicious sells...
