A Little Pick Me Up

I'm not going to lie, this has been a trying week.  I've felt overwhelmed, exhausted, upset, frustrated...when all I want to do is feel happy and inspired.

Today I want to share with you some quotes from my girl Lindsay of Unraveled Design.  Whenever I'm feeling the blah's, I go to her shop and read her pretty designs and I feel a little better.  So to all of you out there who are in need of a little inspiration, a little happy, a little pick-me-up....I hope this helps you like it does for me.

I was not compensated for this post, I just really adore her work!

Multipurpose Makeup Kit [Drugstore Edition]

So...I've been thinking about doing something like this for a while.  As a self described makeup hoarder, I think I have a good mix of makeup that covers the full spectrum of 'drugstore to high-end'.  I think it's important to share good products and ones that you truly recommend, that way others can get a great experience too.  Who knows?  You may love it, you may hate it...but at least you tried something new!

Let's say you wanted to create a makeup kit.  Let's also say that you wanted to create this makeup kit from easily available 'drugstore' products.  We're talking about a kit that could easily fit in a cosmetic bag and be perfect for every day use.  We'll start there.  We'll call this the every-day-and-overnight-cosmetic-bag because, well, I haven't thought of anything cuter to call it yet...

Here's what I recommend for your multipurpose makeup kit.  (Yeah, let's call it that!)

As foundation goes, I tend to try a lot of different brands.  I'm stuck on Almay Smart Shade right now.  I didn't like it at first (but that's because I didn't know how to work with it yet) but it's seriously grown on me.  I mean, who doesn't like a foundation that color corrects to match your skin tone!?

I have always had circles under my eyes, no matter what I do, so I turn to Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer.  It's super concentrated plus it has an easy to apply, creamy formula that lasts all day.

When creating an eyeshadow look that can be considered "every day", it's important that you don't go off the rails in terms of color.  A nice mix of shimmery (read:  not glittery) cream to tan colors, like Hard Candy Shadow Dancers Liquid-To-Powder Eyeshadow in Head To Toe, will always look nice.

I turn to a Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eyeliner Pen when choosing my eyeliner.  This little pen creates a precise line and is great for both thin & thick lines.

Blush is a bit tricky.  Pick too bright a color and you look clownish; too dark a color and you look washed out.  I try to stick to the peach/light pink side of things, like the L'oreal The One Sweet Sculpting Blush in Blush Posh.  This line of blush is awesome because it has a blush & sculpting color in one compact; perfect for contouring & shading.

As far as primer goes, there are a lot out there that don't really do much.  However, I really like Physicians Formula Correcting Primer 3-In-1 Corrector + Primer + Sun Protection.  This formula does a lot of good for the skin.

I like a mascara that makes me look like I actually have long, full lashes.  You won't ever see me sporting barely-there mascara.  All or nothing, baby!  That's why I absolutely love Maybelline The Colossal Mascara in Blackest Black.  All you need is one coat --- two max --- for long pretty lashes.

BONUS:  I can honestly say that this e.l.f. 11-Piece Brush Collection is my favorite of all my makeup brushes.  These brushes are high quality & they're easy to clean too!

There you have it!  What are some of your favorite products?

{RECIPE} Peach Raspberry Mint Water

In an effort to lose weight, I have to drink more water.  I think you'll all agree with me when I say that water is, well, boring.  I decided to figure out ways to make my water taste better but without adding tons of calories or artificial sweeteners.  I headed to my local grocery store and picked out a bunch of frozen fruits.  I've been experimenting with mixing flavors together and I really like how this one turned out.

Please note that these waters will have a hint of flavor and won't be as sweet as a drink like Crystal Light or the like.  It's just a little bit of flavor to make water taste better.  Enjoy!

{Tuesday's Tunes}

Today's pick is a take on the song 'Popular' from the musical Wicked.  It's by Ariana Grande & Mika.  I think the video is visually stunning.  It's reminiscent of the style of Tim Burton.  Ariana Grande is completely gorgeous as well and man can she sing!

Warning:  this song will seriously get stuck in your head.  I find myself singing "I know about pop-u-u-lar" without even realizing what I'm doing....

Tuesday's Tunes!

My song today is from Dave Matthews Band's "Live In Chicago" CD set.  They do an insanely wonderfuly version of 'The Last Stop'.  You can feel the emotion in Dave's voice as he's belting out the lyrics.

This song is not typical DMB fare as the song stands out with it's Eastern musical influences.  This version also features Béla Fleck on the banjo and Tim Reynolds on electric guitar.  In the "Before These Crowded Streets" album, there is a reprise to the song hidden as an Easter Egg at the end of the album, right after "Spoon."  The outro is a stark contrast to the song, with a peaceful melody and simple, calming lyrics.  When played live, "The Last Stop" always segues into the outro, which is performed with the whole band as opposed to the guitar-only version on the album.

This song is about inhumanity, particularly in the context of war. The song contradicts the belief that war is necessary to eventually reach peace, as displayed in the lyrics "War, the only way to peace, well I don't fall for that."

I particularly love the closing of this song,  The way the whole song goes from a such a dark and intense piece to a nice, calming and good feeling ending is incredible.  What an amazing transition.  Oh, and at 7:56, that's my favorite part of the whole song.  I feel like it's that moment when Dave realizes the wonder of it all.  It's such a beautiful moment.

[Tuesday's Tunes]

I swear, I just get a kick out of Tuesday's Tunes.  The search to find a perfect song is just too fun.  Ya'll, I've STILL got Blurred Lines stuck in my head but since I used that last week, I'm going to have to pick a new one.

Hmmm...today I decided on one from My Chemical Romance.  The song is about two lovers whose relationship slowly withers away until one leaves the other alone.  It's such an emotional song and the video is completely beautiful.  The song is slower and more of a ballad than most MCR songs, but it's still a great song.  If the video for "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" made me have a schoolgirl crush on Gerard Way, well, then this video cemented it.  (Just look at that face.)

As a fan, I'm pretty unhappy that the band broke up.  As a 31 year old, I realize that I sound like a teenage groupie.  It is what it is, I guess.  I've always been very passionate about music & the feelings and memories songs can evoke.  My Chemical Romance music makes me feel alive.  I put it on when I work out or clean the house because it peps me up and gives me energy.

I'm linked up for Tuesday's Tunes at Leslyn's Lovely Life.  Pick a song and come link up with us!
