OPI + Gwen Stefani = FABULOUS!

As you all know, I consider Gwen Stefani to be my spirit animal.  I seriously just adore her.  OPI recently released a line of nail polish inspired by dear Gwen and they are super cute!

Feel free to explore the Look Book or continue on below to get the full experience of all these gorgeous shades!

Grap the Gwen for OPI app in the App Store.  The app allows you to create create nail art using the Gwen Stefani Lacquer Collection.  How fun!

OPI joins celebrity partner Gwen Stefani in announcing seven new limited edition nail lacquers for 2014, featuring standout color in breakthrough finishes. Highlights from the collection include a bold red lacquer that pays homage to Gwen’s signature lipstick, a new semi-matte satin finish in shades of gold & black, and a mirrored chrome paired with a special base coat.

Gwen’s signature red OPI hue – Over & Over A-Gwen – is available in a boxed set, which includes Swarovski black crystals and silver, gold and pewter studs in bar, square, diamond & circle shapes for creating unique nail designs, as well as nail glue for easy application. Love.Angel.Music.Baby. and 4 in the Morning feature a new, semi-matte satin finish designed to be worn without top coat. Push and Shove, a bold chrome hue, is also worn without top coat but requires a special complimentary base coat – Lay Down that Base. One thin coat of Lay Down that Base topped with two thin coats of Push and Shove yields an intense, mirrored finish. The collection is rounded out with two glossy crème lacquers and one sparkly glitter shade: Hey Baby, I Sing in Color, and In True Stefani Fashion.

I was not given anything for this post, I just really love OPI & Gwen!

{TUTORIAL} Using DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint

I'm a frequent visitor to the thrift store in my town.  I enjoy searching through the items and sometimes finding treasures.  My main joy comes from taking old items and making them better.  In short, I love to upcycle.  For those unfamiliar with the term, upcycling is a process where you take something considered 'useless' and re-purpose it into an item of new, improved state of better quality.

One one of my outings, I found this darling three tier circular tower.  It was shoved into a corner and had stuff piled all over it.  It was dusty, dirty and painted an awful shade of dingy yellow but I could tell it had potential.  When I inquired about it at the register, the salesperson told me it had been there for a while so she gave me a great deal on it.  Color me excited!

I took it home and began brainstorming.  What could I do with this?  Then it hit me...I could use it as an accessories holder in my bedroom!  It definitely needed some TLC, though.  It needed to be painted.

My style is kind of "old meets new".  I like to mix bright colors with muted tones, vintage furniture with modern.  I discovered DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint and I knew immediately that's what I wanted.  I chose a beautiful subdued shade of turquoise called 'Escape' and went to work.

For this project I needed a drop cloth, two 8oz. jars of paint, paint brushes and a paint holder.  A unique aspect of this chalky paint is to cover surfaces without priming or sanding.  I chose to use foam paint brushes as I find they don't leave streaks as much as those with bristles do.

I started from the top and worked my way towards the bottom, taking care to paint every nook & crevice (believe me, there were many!).  My goal was to create a time-worn, vintage look that would compliment the decor in my bedroom.  Notice how pretty the paint is; the slight matte sheen is quite appealing!

I did spill a few drops of paint on my hardwood floor, but luckily it cleaned up easily with just soap and water!  As I continued painting, I realized to my delight that the desired effect I had in mind could be accomplished with only one coat of paint.  I'm incredibly pleased at how well the paint adhered to the surface of the tower; especially since I didn't sand the previous paint off nor did I use a primer.

I let the paint dry for a few hours and them came back to check on the piece.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that the paint was dry!  I really enjoy how the original color peeks through in places ever-so-slightly.  It really gives the tower a shabby-chic feel, don't you agree?  I think my chosen color of DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint provided the perfect mix of modern and vintage.  I could not be more pleased with the way it turned out!

To see other examples of the versatility of DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint, including dry-brushing, layering, stenciling & more, check out this pinboard or click here.  This paint is available for purchase at Home Depot online or in-store.

{GUEST POST} Rachel from RachMariePR

Dry skin, dry lips, dry hair…are we seeing a trend here? Yes, winter brings the holidays and, depending on where you live – the pretty snow, but it also brings DRY WEATHER. The type of weather that is not so friendly to your skin, hair, lips – you beauty!

Make sure you stock up with the perfect products to keep yourself beautiful during these colder, dry months. I have put together a list of some of winter’s must-have beauty products; products that will help beat the winter weather.

1.      Hydrating Moroccan Rose Mask – you skin can, and most likely will, get very dry during the colder months of the year. This hydrating honey and rose essential oil mask is the perfect mask, made from only natural ingredients. It will lock in moisture and firm skin, helping to keep your skin looking its best.

2.      Moroccan Argan Oil – Keep your hair moisturized too. We all know how frustrating dry and frizzy hair can be! Argan Oil can help beat the irritating, and unsightly, dry and frizziness that winter can bring to your hair.

3.      Chapstick Hydration Lock – No one likes the look or feel of chapped lips. My go-to, and favorite, lip balm is Chapstick brand. The Hydration Lock will moisturize your lips and keep a lightweight feel.

4.      Hissy Fit Handy Work – Dry skin is the worst, and can hurt. Hissy Fit’s hand cream is a luxurious moisturizing hand cream with SPF 30+ UVA/UVB protection.

5.      {S'wipe out} Refreshing Make-up RemovalCloths – You will most likely be attending holiday parties where you want your makeup to look just perfect. There might even be a few events where you go a little bigger and bolder with your makeup which can make for a struggle at the end of the night. Olay’s removal cloths are a great way to gently remove makeup – even waterproof mascara! And, they are super handy on-the-go.

What are your winter beauty must-haves? What products do you swear by when the weather starts to change?

Let's Get Weird

Today I'm going to list a few weird, random & basically unknown facts about myself because I thought it might be fun to a little bit about yours truly.  Feel free to share some of your randomness in the comments below!  We'll be weird together!  It'll be fun....

- I get horribly warm while sleeping.  Even in the winter, I go to bed in a tank top and shorts because I will be burning up all night long.  It's like I turn into a little furnace when I sleep.

- I wish I had some "bar friends".  You know, the kind of friends who think a night out going to bars and drinking but mostly laughing and possibly making an ass out of ourselves is fun.  I don't have that and I feel like it would be a good thing to have.

At least, that's how I hope the equation goes.

- I am always tired.  I have a sleeping issue where I don't go into REM cycle and therefore wake up a ridiculous amount of times per night.  I also sleep with 2 cats and a dog (who likes to burrow under covers) on the bed, so as you can imagine, they are no help in the "good nights' sleep" department.

- I don't consider myself a clean freak but sometimes I look at my house and I guess I see every little thing wrong with the clean-factor and it drives me bat shit crazy.  I'll just have these spells where 'somewhat clean' isn't good enough.  Naturally, the boys just sit on the couch or playing on the computer and pretend like I'm not cleaning like my life depends on it...up until I'm almost done and then I get a "Hey, do you need some help?", which just pisses me off even further.

-I've come to sadly realize that snow is no longer fun.  I still appreciate the grand beauty of it all, but as it serves no purpose in getting me a day off from work, I am now indifferent to it.  It used to be a magical thing when I was younger - it meant no class and staying home, eating junk food and watching TV all day.  Now it means the roads will be crappy on the way to work and it will be cold as balls all day.  Bummer.
