Minty Fresh

There's no denying it.  Mint is the jam right now.  It's kind of a bittersweet moment for me as I've spend most of my life hating mint's cousin, the ever puke inducing sea-foam green.

It goes back to when I was in 6th grade.  I was visiting my dad for the weekend and when I came home, my mom had redecorated my room.  But ya'll, it was like something out of a fluffy nightmare.  I'm talking lacy pillows, curtains, poofy bed linens...the works...all in peach and sea-foam green.  (I die.)

Somehow, peach made it out relatively unscathed, as I still very much like that shade.  However, sea-foam green was not so lucky.  As I said, I've spend a significant amount of time loathing that color.  Then here comes mint....

And I like it.  Now my boyfriend (who I assume is like most of your boyfriends/husbands out there) thinks that there are only about, oh, eight colors total.  He thinks mint is sea-foam green.  {For the record, it is SO not.}

So...basically, I get teased a lot for liking the color.

Ugh, men.

I just wanted to share with you today a few of my favorite minty loves.  Maybe, just maybe, if you have some favorites, will you share with me too?  Leave your minty goodness in the comments below.

Hippie Hippie Shake

My god-daughter's 8th birthday party is this weekend.  Seeing as how I have been dubbed by my friends as the "cake whisperer", I get to be in charge of all my friends kids birthday cakes.  She's having a hippie birthday party.  Tye dye, flowers, bright colors & all that jazz.  Here's what I'm making this go around:
 Source: Cake - Cupcakes
I love (other people's) kids.  They make my heart happy.  But, I do have to admit that being around them is like experiencing the best form of birth control.  My closest friends have kids ranging from 1 year to 8 years and since I am around them all so much, I get the full spectrum of child behaviors thrown my way.  I realize that while I love those kids so very, very much, motherhood is not for me, right now at least.
At Emma's party this weekend, there will be 15+ kids of various age ranges at a rollerskating rink, no less.  Any mama that can handle that without losing it a little bit is a superwoman in my book.  I'm completely fine with being the "Auntie" for now.

reading the empty glass (by j.i. baker)... it's been pretty good so far.  last night i got into it so much that the next thing i know, it's 11 p.m.!  does that ever happen to you?  i do have to say, though, that the book jumps around a tad so it might annoy some people.
writing this blog post, duh!
listening to the complete silence in the office, other than the tap-tap-tap of my keys and the barely audible hum of the computer.
thinking that i really hate politics. and that it's total crap that gas prices are about to go up simply because there is a hurricane. (I left this one alone.  Sidda Thornton got this one 100% right.)
smelling my blazin' rouge zombee candle.
wishing for relief from this (going on 4 days now) headache.
hoping that hurricane isaac leaves my family's & friends' houses alone - in fact, that he will leave everyone & everything alone. (again, i agree with sidda thornton.)
wearing this super cute necklace i got from b chic boutique, brown pants & a sailor striped navy/white shirt.
loving my 3 day weekend coming up.  oh hecks yeah!
wanting to take a nap.  i think this is usually my answer to this question.
needing to go grocery shopping, take clothes to the dry cleaners & check in on my brother.
feeling cranky due to the aforementioned headache.

Madly Loving Plaid(ly)

There's just something about plaid that screams Autumn/Fall.  I don't know about you, but I am craving cooler temperatures.  We may get them, along with a bunch of rain, courtesy of not-so-friendly Hurricane Isaac, who has been hanging over the gulf like an unwanted guest at a party.  (boooo....)

{Seriously, though, everyone in Isaac's path...please be safe & take all the proper precautions.  You are in my thoughts.  I wish you all the utmost safety.}

With the fall temps coming in however which way that they will, it's time I stock my wardrobe with some colorful, fun prints.

Motivation Monday

Ugh....I'm starting off on a bad note in the war with my self control.  I was helplessly drawn to Burger King this morning, where I had two Cinnabon cinnamon rolls & a bacon/egg/cheese croissan'wich.  Shame.  For shame!  I'm so disappointed in myself.  I've lost 64 pounds over the past 8 months, but in the past month & a half, I've gained back 20 of those pounds.  Ugh.

Time to get back on the bandwagon.  Seriously.

I'll tell you what did it.  You'll probably think I'm nuts, but seriously, this is how it went down.  I was watching the season finale of True Blood this morning while eating breakfast.  For those of you who watch the show, you know how gross it is when a vampire meets the 'true death'.  All gooey and slimy looking...
Well, I happened to look down at my cinnamon roll and the piece that was on my fork was attached to the cinnamon roll by a think gooey cinnamon & icing thread.  The moment I looked down and saw this, a vampire bit it on the show.  I realized that my cinnamon roll goo looked like exploded vampire goo....and I was done.  Into the trash it went.  (Told ya'll you'd think I was nuts.)

yep...I grossed myself out.

So today, after the breakfast fail this morning, begins the diet anew.  Do you have any great diet tips, motivators, or low-calorie recipes?  I'd love to hear what works for you!  Here are a few motivators from my Health & Happiness pinboard:

Inspired By: Iced Tomato

The Anaheim Bracelet Trio is inspired by my love of the Orange County scene.  I've got to love a place where my style idol Gwen Stefani grew up!  The colors in the Iced Tomato palette by Design Seeds are very favorable to this combo as well, but I added a bit of a neon kick to this set to liven things up a little.  This bracelet trio retails for $25 and is available on Etsy or Storenvy.

writing when I have time.  I think it's a combo of being constantly tired plus my currently stressful work situation, but come 5 p.m., I feel so drained!
listening to the a/c at work and the tapping of my keys.  Other than that it's super quiet here.
thinking that I need to get back on the diet!  Ugh!  It took half a year to lose 30 pounds and less than two months to gain it back.  FAIL.
smelling my 'Blazin' Rouge' Zombee Candle.  It smells divine!
wishing that I didn't need as much sleep as I do so that I could get more done.
hoping i start to feel rested, motivated, encouraged, & inspired.
wearing work attire.  PJ's here I come!
loving that the month of September is looking to be a pretty good one:)

{Recipe} Chocolate Cake In A Cup

I love making this recipe for dessert.  It's super quick, doesn't require a lot of ingredients....and is so simple even my culinary challenged boyfriend can make it!

However....I must warn you.

(Making these will result in all sorts of late night cravings, skipping-dinner conundrums
& late night trips to the store to get ingredients type shenanigans.)

You've been warned.  These are crazy good.  I might suggest, for a little variety, to add 1 tsp. orange peel or 1/2 tsp. vanilla into the whole mixing process...but, personally, I like them just they way they are. (Cue Bruno Mars.)
